The Philippines has leaped frog from the bottom to being the fourth largest shipbuilding country in the world in terms of orderbook and tonnage after South Korea, Japan and China and even surpassing Germany and Taiwan. This trend goes with the prevailing shipping uptrend like we have never seen before. As the country makes history and so shall our Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers, Inc. - now with a rebranded name and an expanded membership scope to cover not only naval architects and marine engineers but all those professionals involved in the design, construction, operation and repair and maintenance of marine vessels, structures, machinery and related fields. This move bodes well in setting up our Society to adapt to the rapidly changing times and sustain its role in nation building. The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Inc. (or SONAME) successfully staged its "2nd SONAME GOLF CUP" last April 17, 2009 at the Philippine Navy Golf Club, Taguig City.
